Description 'Promised Land' is about a sense of belonging and the feeling that you get as you draw closer to home. The Moses character reinforces this idea of needing a homeland, as well as alluding to the area of Liverpool known as 'the Holy land' due to its biblical street names.
Kevin Smith, Liverpool Member Since October 2010 Artist Statement I was born in Liverpool in 1960 and and grew up in the city. Apart from an A-level in Art, I am completely self-taught. I currently work as a freelance artist and illustrator. My work has been published in newspapers and magazines throughout the world and has also been used in numerous greetings card designs.
I am a self-taught painter, and consider myself to be a naive artist, occasionally bordering on abstract. My work is largely inspired by the people and places around me, combined with my dreams, fantasies and childhood memories.
Artist's who have influenced my work in one way or another include: Christopher Wood, Beryl Cook, Sidney Nolan, Vincent Van Gough, Steven Campbell and Jean Paul Basquiat.
I've recently rented a small studio space within an artists collective in Liverpool city centre (Red wire studios) and I have big hopes of producing some interesting pieces of art whist I'm there.
