Description This pastel portrait of jimi Hedrix is the first of six Rock & Roll series. I started this portrait without the idea that this would become a series. The way the drawing came about was completely unexpected. I started in a tradional way capturing his likeness with many references. After having rendered the basic layout of his face in charcoal I decided to try and add color. At this point I told myself I needed to try something completely different and to really capture the essence of who Jimi was. This lead me to let myself subconsiously create in a free and spontanous style that brought to fruition the final result.
David Sanders, Phoenix, USA Member Since October 2006 Artist Statement My artistic abilities earned me a scholarship to the acclaimed Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1984. In 1989, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Majored in drawing and Illustration. Shortly there after I became involved with the apparel business designing t-shirts, hats and stickers. I still do this full-time and also available for freelance. As for my fine art side of life, this is where I let my imagination take over and draw what ever comes naturally out of my sub consciousness. Over the years, this has developed into what I describe as a surreal and psychedelic style of drawing. I like to think of my works as glimpses of my imagination intertwined with reality.
