Artist Statement Typically, painting "en plein air" is discussed as an art genre whose beginnings evolved from the works of Monet, Renoir and Degas, to name a few.Lost in these discussions are the equally great "plein air" works of the late 18th and early 19th centuries created by the "Pre-Impressionists"... artists such as John Constable, JMW Turner and a host of other classically trained, yet pioneering artists who, long before Monet, boldly captured natural light and landscapes en plein air and paved the way for the plein air impressionists of the Barbizon Era.To that end, I have dedicated myself to rediscovering and preserving the techniques and methods of the Pre-Impressionists and employing their methods to paint the familiar, yet vanishing vistas of this earth.
