Jan Statman is a graduate of Hunter College, New York City, where she studied with such Twentieth Century American Masters as Robert Motherwell, William Baziotes, and Richard Lippold, and with her father, Saul Berliner. She is listed in Who in American Art, Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in the Arts Who’s Who in America, Dictionary of International Biography, and numerous other biographical references.
Statman’s award-winning paintings are owned by public and private collections across the USA and in Europe, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Alto Aragon en Huesca, Spain, and the Civic Museum of Contemporary Art, Sass Ferrato, Italy. One of her paintings was purchased by the junior League of Longview to be part of the Permanent Collection of the Longview Museum of Fine Arts.
Her paintings have been exhibited in One-Artist Shows in museums and galleries across the USA, including the Milam Gallery, Dallas; Madison Gallery, new York City; Vandersen Gallery, New York City; Barnwell Art Center, Shreveport, La; Kilgore College, Kilgore, Texas; McAllen International Museum, McAllen, Texas; Wichita Falls Art Association, Wichita Falls, Texas, Longview Art Museum, Longview, Texas; Marshall Visual Arts Center, Marshall, Texas and others. They are exhibited in East Texas by The Artist’s Gallery, Longview, , and by the Gold Leaf Gallery, Tyler.
Artist, author, poet, playwright, columnist, art teacher and TV host, Statman has curated exhibits and served as juror for numerous area art competitions. She was an Artist-in-Residence for the State of Texas Commission on the Arts. She was named a Star Over Longview.
