Artist Statement Self described “FUNKYINDUSTRIAORGANICDIGITALFUSIONIST” “FUNKYPHIL” has a background in the automotive refinish world. He spent eighteen years as a refinish representative.
I probably would still be working as a rep, had not the economic hard times hit after 911. Yes I was one of the casualties, my position was eliminated on Sept. 20th 2004 at 9:00 am.
After getting over the shock of losing my job it was time for me to go deep inside myself and start pulling out of me all of my creative resources that had been laying dormant for years. While going on early morning walks I started to pay more attention to nature and the art that already exist within, and how this society is a throw away culture. From tennis shoes to people, it seems nothing has any value anymore. That's when I decided to combine found objects with the art of nature, and recycled them into functional works of art. Eventually branching off into DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHIC ART, which is being showcased here. Using the knowledge that was gained on my job I use modern technology to fuse together elements that you would not normally see, such as million year old stones with car parts, to driftwood, and many things in between. The images on this site are just a small fraction of the creative juices that are being squeezed out of me.
