Red Lipstick-Gold Cones, v.23, is one of my "Cosmetics Art" Photographs. I'm always amazed at the cool cosmetics photographs in the magazines and on the big ads plastered all over in the cosmetics section of the department stores: Truly, some of the best photography around is cosmetics photography! Usually, I see the product against white backgrounds: I guess that is where I part company with the typical cosmetic ad photograph...and there are equipment and lighting differences too, but so what!
Many cosmetic container designs are a work of art on their own. If I find something that I like and think it will work into a photo-idea for a Cosmetics Art photograph, then I work with it.
If my wife gets new makeup, I tell her: You aren't using that until I figure out a way to photograph it! I'm lucky she has enough backup to last until I get around to shooting her new cosmetics.
