Scarlet Owl Studio, Denver Member Since October 2011 Artist Statement I'm a professional artist and fine art instructor based in Denver, Colorado. My primary artistic inspiration has always has been nature and color. I most enjoy exploring the complex patterns, colors, symbols, and organic textures of nature.
Van Gogh once offered that artists should listen to the “language of nature.” While my work is often spontaneous and intuitive, I also strive to balance this energy with thoughtful “listening” as Van Gogh suggests.
While nature is my muse, color is my daily creative passion. Whether I’m working in watercolor, oil, acrylic or mixed media I enjoy celebrating the never ending mystery of color relationships. I’m particularly interested in pigments—their history and individual chemical properties.
Today, I’m thrilled to be able to share my life long passion and knowledge as a private painting instructor in my home studio. It’s a wonderful experience watching a student grow as an artist and it pushes me to keep learning and “never rust” as well.
I hold a Master's Degree from the University of Colorado and am a long time member of the Art Student's League of Denver.
