Artist Statement Hi and welcome to my page.
I'm by origin estonian (and still am) but born (1945) and grew up in Sweden due to circumstances and consequences of WW2. Since 1981 living in Ecuador.
Drawing and painting (and patience) for me was a gift of nature and very much a part of my early life. Completely self-taught, as they say. So instead of studying art I graduated from University of Stockholm in Finances and Sociology. After having finished my academic studies I began to develop more seriously my passion for art. A career in advertising and illustration began at Foote, Cone & Belding in Stockholm where I worked for six years until I moved to Ecuador in 1981 with my ecuadorian husband and my then four year old son. During my first three years in Quito I worked for a TV channel making ads and later working on free-lance basis for different creative agencies as illustrator especialized in air-brushing technique.
Living in Ecuador, surrounded by snowy mountains, palmtrees, rainforests and a colorful folklore inspires me to put on canvas the mystic contemplation of the Andean indians and at the same time be fascinated by the symmetry of a palm leaf or water-washed stones on a Napo riverbank in Amazonas. In the beginning I worked basically in oil, but some fifteen years ago I went over to paint only in acrylic on canvas, which by now I think, I dominate totally.
