Artist Statement I am a very enthusiastic amateur artist, primarily self-taught. I try to combine my art creation alongside a full-time job, although I am looking to reduce my job hours to allow more time to devote to my work. I have been painting for over 15 years; a lot of this time has been spent experimentally, learning my craft and improving my techniques, whilst trying to define my ‘niche’ – although this is still work in progress! I primarily work in my spare time at home, in a spare room that I have devoted to my painting. This enables me to leave me work at the end of each session without having to clear all my materials away.
I do try to keep myself challenged from a personal point of view – trying new and different subjects to paint, rather than sticking to one type of style or subject matter. My inspiration for subjects to paint come primarily from my every day environment and the media. I am fairly eclectic in taste as far as the subjects that attract me – but I especially enjoy ‘pop art’ – by which I mean everyday contemporary objects or subjects – which are not given star billing ordinarily but become out-of-the-ordinary when made the actual subject in their own right. I like the paradox of this! These have included national (and international) iconic subjects – such as flags, or American-style sneakers, for example, I have an equal enjoyment of creating marine subjects – seascapes, boats and boating,
I love painting and progressively find a conflict between supporting a full-time job an being able to devote as much time to my painting as I would like. Ultimately, my dream is to become a full-time artist, who is able to make a reasonable living from selling my work. I have a website and have sold over 100 paintings worldwide.
