Katy Shain, Ohio, USA Member Since August 2006 Artist Statement Photography is my way of sharing the world that I see and feel with others. My intent is to allow people to experience different subjects with me while I present the viewer with a different approach to a subject. I prefer to focus on objects, events and scenes that people would not normally pay attention to in their busy lives. In my most recent works, I have focused on animals because of a personal connection. In many ways, I feel that animals are not appreciated enough in art. Too often, animals are not seen as a valid subject for serious artists, however I do not share that view, and I try to show that in my images.
My photographs may be viewed individually, or within a series of related photographic events that collectively present a stronger visual imagery. When shown in series, they are intended to draw viewers into the depth of the subject matter. When captured, the viewer is taken to that place or event and becomes a part of the moment portrayed in the image.
It is my hope that viewers will find a connection in my photographs that will spark an intensity similar to my own, although that intensity does not have to convey the same meaning or feeling. The viewer is encouraged find their own peace. If seeing the world through the lens of my camera can slow the pace of life down or fix a moment in time that someone can relate to, I have achieved my goal.
I started out as a traditional B&W photographer then moved into digital photography which then led to computer art. I have a BA in Art with a concentration in Photography and a minor in Art History from Otterbein College. I've taken 7 different courses in photography. I've also take courses like Computer Art I & II, Visual Communications, Transferred Image, Computer Graphics, Drawing I & II, Painting, 2D & 3D Design, and many other art related classes. I hope you all enjoy my work and if you have any comments, suggestions, or even constructive criticism I'd love to hear it.
