Artist Statement My name is Amy Hardin. I’m an Arizona resident and have been most of my life. My love for drawing started at an early age and began by tracing and creating cutouts of coloring book and animal book pictures. My skills evolved from there when I started trying to freehand the images. It was just a fun past time at that point and a quick way to make new toys, I didn’t become truly inspired by my art until my fourth grade art teacher fell in love with a picture I drew of a horse race. She encouraged me to draw more pictures like it, with an emphasis on horses. My focus has since turned to wildlife and fantasy creatures with an emphasis on various types of birds, tigers, gryphons and dragons.

My favorite genres to draw are fantasy creatures and wildlife. My art aims to make the most of the bold and rich colors of prisma colored pencils and markers in harmony with the soft colors of chalk pastels. Details are simple but effective in giving the subject form and styles range from chibi to realistic. Clayboard and ink drawings hold a strong emphasis on detail, making full use of the contrasting black and white to make an appealing image that looks realistic. I am currently working to improve my use of textures in my drawings as well as adding full detailed backgrounds.
