Description Most Filipinos are engaged in cockfighting or sabong. Sabong has been around in the Philippines for quite a while. Even before the Spaniards arrived, it was already a part of the natives culture. The Spaniards landed on the island of Palawan where they discovered native Filipinos have already been raising native roosters to fight, putting them in shared cages to fight for scraps of food. The painting shows a cock handler preparing his best cock for a cockfight in his village.
