Description Mark Gould: Altered Imagery As a photographer and an artist one of my techniques is to work on a photo digitally, using Photoshop and other computer paint programs. Then I will print the image to a special transparency on a higher end inkjet printer, and transfer the image to paper, canvas, wood or any kind of substrate. I finish the piece by hand painting on top of the image most often with acrylic paint and ink. This has become known as an 'image transfer print,' and is just one of a number of new printmaking processes.

Artist Statement Mark Gould became an artist after a short career in television and video. He became enthusiastic about computer generated art after seeing the first version of Photoshop - his eyes widened and his mind raced when he realized what could be done digitally with photographic images.

While some of Mark's work contains digital elements, none of his work is completely "digital art." He prefers to use the computer for what it does best and outputs the result to canvas and continues the work with other media. Sometimes he will go through this result in reverse, beginning a painting or collage, scanning it in at high quality resolution, and finishing the work on the computer.

Gould is currently living in San Francisco. He still enjoys working with video, photography, is a jogger, cyclist and is an advocate and supporter of many important social and environmental issues and has contributed his work and his time to a number of non-profits.
