Artist Statement My favorite paintings take me to a place where I want to be; wine country, the marsh, or the ocean. I love nature and travel, so I instantly gravitated towards painting landscapes. I like boats, water, and being outside, so that's what I paint. The fun part is the color, texture, and creating a sense of place. The beauty of nature makes me feel peaceful and close to God. I also like to paint still lifes. My painterly marshes have been a favorite in galleries in the Southeast. I like the imperfectness (is that a word?) of loose paintings in bright colors. I used to paint more realistically and in a more detailed fashion – because I thought I was supposed to. Then I realized that I’m not ‘supposed’ to do anything but be who I am.

About me:

I am a graduate of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, (A.A. Graphic Design), Utah State University (B.S. Marketing), and the University of South Carolina (MBA). My work can be found at various locations in North and South Carolina.

I paint much like I cook. I have a recipe in mind, but throw in a few ingredients that sound good together. I don’t measure and I find my way as I go. Much like the way I’d like to live my life, now that I think about it.

I’m most comfortable in my old jeans and I love my cowboy boots. I have lived in four US time zones but I’d rather have my feet in the sand than anywhere else. I dream of watching the sunset every night from my dock, owning a motorcycle, and meeting the Barefoot Contessa.

My Process
Once I actually begin to paint (and it takes me FOREVER to get started – a habit I need to break) I just lose myself in the process. Sometimes it’s challenging to make what is in my head actually appear on the canvas or paper, but often it flows. I’m not sure how the process works. I’ve studied with amazing artists, learned techniques, and have a design degree. But sometimes it just all flows out and I don’t know where it came from. I’m trying to be more thoughtful and deliberate when I paint.
