Artist Statement Katherine DeSilva is a Special Education and Visual Art Teacher in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She received her B.F.A. in Communication Design from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and her M.S. in Special Education from Western Governors University.

She is an active and resourceful teacher. Katherine’s teaching style reflects her previous career experiences in the home improvement industry and in marketing and design. She has used her fine art training as a graphic designer, marketing specialist, kitchen and bath designer and flooring installer in the Greater Boston area. She then increased her design work to include a number of clients that worked with disabled youth, this lead to a career change with a wealth of meaning.

In her spare time she continues to paint, design jewlery and photograph. She uses her broad background to bring real life problem solving and creativity to lessons.

Ms. DeSilva is a licensed educator for visual art (K-8 & 6-12), elementary education and special education (K-8 & 6-12.) She is currently working on her certification in Instructional Technology, a long time passion.
