Artist Statement Exploring light as an expressive medium, the unique artistic eye of
landscape photographer Brett Matthews seeks to reveal the essence and
spirit of the natural world. His extraordinarily beautiful and powerful
photographs – imbued with an allusive presence – portray nature’s form
in a painterly style. Working with reflections, texture, and color, his
images unveil a play of light – exposing a dynamic interplay of
simplicity and complexity, the whole and the part, the representational
and abstract. His photographs display a keen awareness of light’s
metaphorical moods, presenting allegorical images that evoke a
subjective rapport with nature.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Brett studied photography at the
University of Oregon, receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in
Visual Design. Early on, he chose photography as a means to explore
the wonder of nature, and has been seriously pursuing photography for
over 30 years. His images are widely acclaimed, and available for
gallery exhibitions, media publications, and designer decor. Brett
produces limited edition fine art prints using new digital imaging
technologies with the latest advances in archival photographic printing
processes.
