Description In his poem 'Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Night,' Robert Frost writes,'The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep'In this watercolor painting, I wanted to paint night as a comfy blanket rather than something that is scary. I hope this painting inspires sweet dreams.
Joe Hoksbergen, Pella Member Since August 2009 Artist Statement My work is influenced by a variety of sources. I grew up on a farm in Southern Iowa. There I learned the value of diligence and hard work but I also discovered a secret joy in escaping into my own imagination, dreaming up creatures and places and stories. I can recall many times in which I missed raking a row of hay because I was too deep in thought. I find inspiration all around me... the weather... the Iowa landscape... my students... my wife and child... my faith. I consider myself blessed to be surrounded by so much that can excite my creativity.
