Artist Statement Hi!

My name is Miikka and I'm a photographer from Finland.

Photography came to my life in a really strange way. As a teenager I used to skateboard with my friends and my friend Pete was actually very good in it. We were filming amateur videos all the time and I was mostly behind the camera. So those were my first steps in filming and more importantly in photography.

I always liked art lessons in school but nobody ever thought I would become any kind of artist. Not my family nor teachers in school. Then in 2004 I got my first small and very bad camera and I tried to take pictures of all the flowers in my yard or rather my parents yard as I was just 16. A couple of years later I started to read about photography and I learned all the basics just before my military service.

In 2008 I bought my precious old Nikon D80 which I used more than 7 years. My photos were always about landscapes or nature's little details until a friend of mine asked me to take photos of her cosplay. After that I learned much more about photography and found lots of new tricks and also new ideas.

I still love skateboarding in general even though I don't skate myself anymore. I still love taking photos of flowers. I'm the photographer of maybe the biggest cosplay group of Finland. And I still love to learn more and more about art.

So, if you see those irritating skateboarding teens, they might still become something someday.
