Description This is a digitally altered photograph taken in the middle of the night in the artist's neighborhood during fall 2007 of light from a street lamp coming through some leaves above where he was walking. The camera was moved just so while the photo was taken, enabling the artist to convince himself momentarily that he has a way of making the camera move 'just so' while taking photos. It may be entitled Son in terms of (he should have been a) or possibly in the biblical mystical vision of The Son reflecting The Sun or the lamp light esoterically being a sort of microcosmic (as above so below) reflection of the macrocosmic one Sun. The artist still isn't sure what he means.
John Karl Reynolds, Seattle Member Since November 2007 Artist Statement My art is made from scrying, mostly.
What is scrying?
wikipedia: "practice of looking into a translucent ball or other material" ..in order to see more and more and more..., "such as spiritual visions." The most common media used are reflective, translucent, or luminescent substances such as crystals, stones, glass, mirrors, water, fire, or smoke. Scrying has been used in many cultures in the belief that it can divine the past, present, or future."
Scrying is an ancient practice and still used widely by shamans and this is also the same category as spirit photography and the work of paranormal investigators.
Seers are scryers. Scryers are seers. It will open your 3rd eye.
Scrying is seeing into the "spiritual" or hidden aspects of the electromagnetic spectrum that the eye does not usually see, or that the brain often filters out.
I'm from upstate New York and east Texas and now live in Seattle.
