Artist Statement Ellen Steele started her formal training in art studying with Diego Rivera in Mexico City, having run away from Lansing Michigan. When Walter and Joyce came to drag her back home she lit out again, this time for a teaching gig in New Orleans at the Beaux Arts School. The ad said "The pay is poor, but New Orleans is Magic", so naturally she went.

Wherever the artist's life took her Ellen carried her paintings with her. Mostly because nobody would buy them. By the time she was starring in the flossy salons of Chevy Chase she was applauded as a rank amateur. Now that she has reached the torrid banks of the James River in Richmond, Virginia she is finally getting the recognition that her artistic accomplishments deserve. Art Prints on the Internet!
