Nancy Murphree Davis, Florida Keys Member Since January 2014 Artist Statement My watercolor paintings are a cacophony of color. I mean to convey beauty in the mundane or give a whole new perspective to the already interesting or beautiful. I am drawn to industrial towers and structures, architectural facades, and landscapes with bold shapes or anything with a strong pattern. I work from photographs (usually my own), which I manipulate digitally to simplify and abstract. When I take out the paints, I use an extensive palette, but rhythm and repetition make a harmonious melody of the color. I often flip flop negative space with positive space. This adds interest and creates a strong visual path.
I grew up in Alabama and graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Auburn University. I belong to several art organizations in the DC Metro area and participate in juried shows on a monthly basis. Visit my website for a more extensive list of shows and awards.
