Description Spy hopping is a whale behaviour which actually is as simple as it seems - they poke their heads up to see what's going on. This one is part of a resident pod in the San Juan Islands north of Seattle. There was a small fishing boat just to the right of this frame, so there was plenty for this particular whale to see.
