Description Mixed Media: Watercolor on Gesso painting 15x11;Frame: 21 x 17First of three in a series of paintings of the streets and doors of 15th century 'Old Town' section of Zanzibar City. There is Arab, Persian, Indian and European elements seen in this older part of the city. The gesso underpainting gives the textures of the stone along with a couple other techniques. This makes a nice trilogy hanging on the wall with the other two in the series.
Diana Nadal, Portland Member Since March 2014 Artist Statement I am a native Oregonian, mother of 3, grandmother of 3 and wife of 50 years who had found creative outlets as an interior designer and business owner before focusing my creative energy to being a full-time artist 13 years ago.
My inspiration comes from family travels, wine, reflections and shadows on water and other surfaces, scenes with people doing ordinary but interesting things and portraits. I can't resist painting an interesting face! I prefer to paint realistically but lately my emphasis has been on more expressionistic and abstract subjects.
I taught my first workshop on Exploring Liquid Watercolors Using webbing, textures and other techniques--"Making It Your Own," and am interested in teaching artists how to start their own critique groups.
