Brian Vance, Seattle
Member Since January 2007
Artist Statement Since the mid-1980s, Brian Vance has worn many hats: student, non-commissioned officer in the US Navy, banker, insurance auditor, son, husband, river runner and yacht racer. One activity, yet unmentioned, has been consistent, art. Whether the opera, or visual arts, he has mostly been an observer of such endeavors.

But Mr. Vance has been a photographer for this entire time. His self training is solidly grounded in the use of 35mm and medium format film equipment. Most of his serious work recently has been digital; however, he approaches this discipline as a film photographer, even when at the computer.

This recent work is focused on architecture. Mr. Vance has developed a style of architectural photography that is completely original in look and feel. He considers his art a synthesis of the professional architecture photography methodology, however, with a strong West Coast School photographic aesthetic. His work is, at first glace, bold, but extraordinarily detailed upon closer examination.

Mr. Vance participated in his first group show at Museo Art and Design in Issaquah, Washington. Subsequent venues included a solo show at the Sammamish Library and the inclusion of works as silent auction items Lenny Wilkins Celebrity Auction.
