Artist Statement During her prolific writing career, Lisa Weedn authored many of the most successful gift and stationery products in the industry, including thousands of greeting cards, e-cards, calendars, and licensed home products. Lisa also co-authored with her mother, Flavia Weedn, over sixty inspirational books, a collection of guided journals for pre-teen girls, and a series of children's books released by Hyperion Books for Children. Because of its nurturing content, this work has won prestigious parenting awards and been used in inner-city youth programs and school curriculum as an integral part of ethics and self-esteem programs throughout the world. Lisa Weedn's most recent work has expanded from her writings to images she paints on canvas. Her artwork has been described as urban folk art infused with a contemporary inspirational edge. Her saturated palette reveals a fresh painterly interpretation of well-loved urban icons, and her love of the written word infuses each canvas with layered meanings celebrating the details and beauty of everyday life.
"I've been writing since I was a young child. Spilling words upon a page became my way of not only understanding myself, but also the world around me. I've been painting for just as long, but my artwork was something I kept very private and away from the public eye. It took a milestone birthday, and the encouragement of my free spirited seven and seventeen year old daughters, for me to finally loosen my grip. Transcending the written page and breaking through my own barriers to let others literally see what I see has been an awakening for me and one of the most freeing experiences of my life." - Lisa Weedn
