Alla Baksanskaya, Brooklyn Member Since May 2008 Artist Statement I was born in Baku, Azerbaijan - beautiful city on Caspian Sea shore. Currently I live in New York. As much as I remember myself I always painted and turned ordinary things into artsy objects. But only recently I can no longer hide the artist inside me and I started painting and making artworks full time. I create images from natural ocean shells found in different parts around the world. I am moved by the natural beauty of sea shells, intrigued by the deep and endless ocean where they were found. They are rich sources for exploration and discovery. I arrange them to create realistic and sometimes surrealistic images. I am exploring the relations between imagination and reality in the natural environment. My goal is to create objects that are pleasurable to live with, that bring emotion into someone’s heart.
