Description Sundogs, also known as Parhelia or Mock Suns, are an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs when the sun is occluded by high cirrus clouds, generating a prismatic, bright area at about 22 degrees to each side of the sun. These same atmospheric conditions can result in sun or moon halos, as well as sun pillars.
