Description The sun descends on a beautiful summer evening along the coast in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Haystack Rock and the Needles sit prominently in the waves of the Pacific Ocean. From visittheoregoncoast.com: Famous for Haystack Rock towering 235 feet from the edge of the shoreline, long sandy stretches of beach and beautiful State Parks nearby, Cannon Beach offers an exceptional Oregon Coast experience only 90 minutes from Portland. A walk along the beach is a visual treat, with ever-changing vistas of ocean, mountains and rugged coastal outcroppings including Haystack Rock, a National Wildlife Refuge where visitors will discover colorful tide pools and nesting seabirds including Tufted Puffins. Just minutes from downtown Cannon Beach is Ecola State Park, perched dramatically on the edge of a headland and offering panoramic coastal views, easy walking paths to scenic picnic areas and extensive hiking trails.
Don Schwartz, Portland, Oregon Member Since September 2012 Artist Statement Photography is for me a dance with nature. It is the immersion in a landscape; the sharing of a habitat with nature’s creatures. It is the sense of being lost in the moment, where the passing of time goes unnoticed. It is the serendipity of capturing a moment in time that becomes a timeless moment. The quiet places, the places of simple beauty, draw me in – from the delicate splendor of dew dancing on an iris petal to the magnificent breadth of a gray whale slicing through the water. With my camera, I am a blessed witness in a field of splendor.
