Artist Statement Maria Alexandrovna Bashtova was born on 11 March 1978 in Mykolaiv, administrative center of Mykolaiv oblast (Southern Ukraine), on the estuary of Yuzhny Bug River, about 40 miles (65 km) from Black Sea.
Maria started to dealing with art and with creative production when she was very young (as early as age of 6), attending drawing/painting classes in one of the many Art Studio (Изостудия) situated in the Mykolaiv city. At age of 11, Maria entered Mykolaiv Children's Art School where she further developed her artistic skills and a peculiar critical thinking which is at the base of her positive creativity.
In the year 2002, Maria graduated from Art faculty of National University for Culture and Arts. In the summer 2012 she frequented a course of art and technique of digital photography, given by Alexandre Strachorskiy, with the aims to expand her interest towards new stimulating forms of self-expression.
Although Maria Bashtova is still at an early stage of his artistic career, she demonstrated a remarkable maturity and an original picturesque style. Absorbing a great experience of creative work in the field of art and applied art, she is able to create a deeply receptive perception of the reality, keeping alive a strong sensitivity to the elegance.
At the present stage of her creative pathway, a temperament much close to expressionism dominates her sparkling creation. The series of paintings dedicated to secluded forests and still life, full of light-airy atmosphere and dense of vivid color, synthesizes a smooth and transparent world. These profound environments and charming subjects are washed away from precise contours and from the stiffness of the strict geometry; the sceneries are radically distorted by optical effects driven by emotions and perceptions, with the aims of evoking the veritable nature of the humanity and its fragile passions.
