Artist Statement I have been a railroad photographer for the last 15 years. I started out with film in the early 90's and went digital about 5 years ago. I find trains interesting, not from a technical standpoint, but from the perspective of what trains mean to different people. In my photos, I strive to show railroading as it is, in it's own environment.

Growing up, my dad was a collector of model trains, and to varying degrees my brothers and I share the hobby that Dad so enjoyed. I don't collect model trains, but I love the real ones, and I love photographing them. They are big, powerful, industrial machines that move the things that make the economy move. They are stuff of a little boy's day dream. There is something about being trackside when a train goes roaring by... the smell, the sound, the vibrations.

My favorite memories of growing up are being trackside with Dad watching trains go by on a lazy Saturday or Sunday. Living in the Chicago area, there certainly is no lack of railroad tracks in my area, in fact, the busiest main line in the area runs by right across the street......
