Artist Statement Lara Fleming has turned her creative passion into a reality, producing paintings reflecting her knowledge, skills and love of her surroundings.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Lara would regularly come to New Zealand with her Kiwi father to visit her artist grandmother, her grandfather and extended family. In 1993 Lara moved to New Zealand permanently with her father, two sisters and brother.

The sea, nature and the environment has always held a fascination for her. She completed a BSc Biology at the University of Auckland before entering the work force with a “sensible” job. Wanting to still feel connected to the environment Lara started painting part-time in 2004.

Lara took up surfing a few years ago and finds the sea inspirational and this is reflected in her paintings. After taking up snowboarding in 2010 we will soon see snow themed paintings.

She is currently living on the North Shore, in Auckland close to several beaches which inspire her.
