Description Sweltering Summer is inspired by my love of theMinneapolis Skyline and the Stone Arch Bridge. It was a hot June day and I was walking along the river during an art festival - this is my expression of what I saw - the skyline in sweltering summer!
Deb Magelssen, Forest Lake, Minnesota Member Since October 2009 Artist Statement Minnesota artist Deb Magelssen considers herself an "Expressionist Colorist". Whether in watercolor or acrylic, Deb's use of bold, bright, beautiful color are vividly present in all of her paintings. Born in Minneapolis in 1955, her love of art started in 2nd grade with an influential teacher who encouraged her to never let go of her artistic dreams.
Deb attended the University of Minnesota with degrees in Art and Psychology. After 20 plus years working in other careers, teaching art and just doing art as a hobby, she is finally, and presently, living her dream of being a professional full-time Fine Artist.
Deb believes that painting from one's heart is the very essence of creating any form of art. Techniques, formula's and all the "how to's" are just the basic processes to creating art. Great art has to have some sort of feelings or mood that connects the viewer on an emotional level. Her fascination and use of intense color, sometimes straight from the jar or tube, reflects those emotions and feelings directly onto her watercolor paper and canvases.
Deb has won many awards and most recently, 2nd place Award at the Minnesota Watercolor Society Spring Show for her work, "Next ta Nappin".
Deb is present board member with the International Society of Acrylic Painters, The Minnesota Watercolor Society and memberships with The Red River Watercolor Society, The Transparent Watercolor Society, Northstar Watercolor Society, White Bear Lake Center for the Arts, Banfill-Locke Art Center, Bloomington Center for the Arts, Art Reach Alliance and the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
