Description This is a mountain scene of the Swiss Alps which shows light from the setting sun highlighting the tops of the distant mountains. The blue and purple mountains in the mid distance are coloured as such to represent cool air descending upon an otherwise warm terrain. The original painting was achieved with heavy bodied acrylic paints to give an impasto effect. The paint was applied with a small painting knife. No brushes were used. It was completed in one sitting in my studio and from sketches.
Edward McNaught-Davis, Llanon, Wales, United Kingdom Member Since September 2006 Artist Statement Greetings!
My name is Edward McNaught-Davis and I am a professional British Fine Artist and Cartoonist living and working in West Wales where I am inspired by much of the varying beauty of the Welsh countryside and its coastline.
I prefer to paint/illustrate scenes depicting escapism and freedom but with a sense of contemporary responsibility.
The common denominator among all of my pictures is the vivid sense of colour used to enhance a scene. I strive to achieve the right balance of colour to make the picture come alive so that you, the viewer, feels part of it.
I seem to be inspired to do many of my paintings and it is quite common these days for faces and illustrations of people and animals to appear in my work that I haven't consciously put there. These additional inspirations are of subtle quality and blend in well with the composition.
Many of my paintings have been sold to private individuals in Europe, Russia, Australia and the USA. My art was shown on UK Television a few years ago too. Quite a few of my cartoons have been sold to publications within the UK and the USA.
Not all of my art is from Wales as I have travelled extensively around the World and I have captured many scenes from many different countries.
