Artist Statement I am a Canadian fine art photographer currently living in Mexico City.
Essentially, I am an urban street photographer who specializes in architecture, but especially in what I call ‘found art.’ I look for construction walls and telephone poles that are covered with posters and handbill, the older and more worn the better so that multiple layers are exposed. My eye and camera see these as found ‘collages’ that are part of the underlying conversation that all societies have – the ongoing discussion of values, interests, morals etc. Most people walk by such things without ever looking at them. My goal is to get them to stop and see that there is ‘art’ all around us. What also appeals to me is the ephemeral nature of my subjects. Virtually none of my subjects exist anymore as they are eventually ripped down or papered over by the time I walk by wherever I shot the image. I do very little manipulation of the images. What you see is essentially what I shot.
I was a featured gallery artist at The Elaine Fleck Gallery in Toronto for about eight years until I moved to Mexico. While with the gallery, I had my work appear in a number of two man shows as well as group show. I have also had work shown at The Perfect Exposure Gallery in Los Angeles and recently had one of my images featured in their "Top 100" show.
