Artist Statement A visitor to the Atelier once asked, "How can anyone come to this studio to draw and paint day after day, year after year?"

Because we can't not paint.

When Katherine is not painting a still life or portrait in studio, she is often traveling to paint. In March and April 2010 she spent five weeks in Italy, soaking up works of the Old Masters and painting street scenes of Rome, Florence & Venice and landscapes of Tuscany. Recently she has also traveled to California, Mexico, and along the North Shore of Lake Superior to paint en plein air.

Katherine is trained in Classical Realism, at the Atelier Studio Program of Fine Art, http://theatelier.org, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which combines the traditional academic methods of the Old Masters with influence of the French Impressionists.

Her "past lives" include a childhood in small-town Iowa; later living in Hawaii, Colorado, and Maryland; working as a registered nurse and then as an at-home mom. She has lived in Eden Prairie, Minnesota for over twenty years, and currently works at the Quincy Studio in Northeast Minneapolis, as well as plein air.
