Artist Statement Julio César Ortiz (b. 1987) is a Artist based in Walnut Creek California. Ortiz was born in Ciudad Guzman, Mexico. He has resided in California for the last two decades and has been greatly influenced by American culture and Art. Mr. Ortiz has always gravitated towards illustration ever since elementary school when he would spend all of his time drawing. He is currently employed as a Sign Artist. Mr. Ortiz is a mostly self taught artist that likes to explore and learn outside the confinement of a classroom. In his free time he has been hard at work developing a unique style and technique as well as experimenting with different mediums. Ortiz illustrates fantastical yet humble abstractions of his own dreams and experiences with a lively and young perspective. His own inner child has been a catalysts of inspiration for his constant sketches, In these sketches remains the key to unlocking his magnum opus.

'My artistic process expresses my fears as a young child and of real life threats in the outside world, in contrast some are very optimistic and humorous as only a fairytale would compare - I strive to find within myself the power to inspire and overcome the adult mind and return to the state of innocence of a child's mind, strength to continue my life's passion and the courage to grow. Illustrating a fun and adventurous character--referred to as "Prince"--emerging triumphant in the pursuit of cupcakes in a isolated and menacing world.
