Artist Statement After high school, Robert joined the army in 1967, sent to Korea where he started painting evenings and weekends. In 1970 he studied the work of Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso, and Whistler.  In Washington DC he spent weekends painting the countryside of Maryland and Virginia.
In 1974 Robert became a product package engineer for Johnson & Johnson, then creative design manager with Disney. He had always wanted to work for Disney and he worked on exciting projects, looking back fondly on his time with Disney.
Robert's paintings show a range of styles and techniques. Brush strokes are visible as an important element in his paintings. He uses varied painting styles rather than one technique.  His artwork has been exhibited in Florida, Maryland, Virginia, and New Jersey, and he continues to do character paintings for Walt Disney World.
Robert's published book, 'One Year There' is a free verse epic poem of 1968 in South Korea, told as memories of the soldiers located in a small outpost, hidden in the mountains. The poems are snapshots of that nuclear missile base which was on the North Korean target list.
Although these poems can be read as a war story, there are no battles or military campaigns. Rather, these poems show life on a small army base during a very anxious and confusing time, filled with news about the USS Pueblo capture by the North Koreans her crew accused of being spies, the killings of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy, and a North Korean assassin team getting to within two blocks of the South Korean presidential palace.
He hopes the reader will gain a new understanding of what it was like on that base in South Korea. He also hoped to purge any phantoms still around since living "One Year There".
Robert's printed book version includes photographs, available through Amazon Books and Barnes & Noble online. The electronic book version does not have photographs and is available through Kindle.com and Nook.com.
