Artist Statement Whenever someone looks at one of my images.... and turns it around, trying to decide which end is "up", I know that I have succeeded. My eye tends to be attracted to form and the relationship of that form to color...and when I happen upon an image where the light is being bent by glass or usually water (in any of it's many forms)it is as though I am under "arrest" until I find an image that articulates my impression of what is before me.
The most important influences on my development as a photographer are the timesless photographic images of Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, the abstractions of Vincent Van Gogh, AND the Pentax 1 (one) degree Spotmeter I bought the year before I went to SVA back in the 70's. With it I was able to get light readings off of all parts of an image; It enabled me to truly understand the Zone system of exposure which I later learned during my time spent at SVA..

Thank you for your interest in my impressions... and I hope you had the urge to turn the monitor upside down and sideways......
