Description From Americas founding to the present day, the democratic experiment has endeavored to escape the tyranny of an autocratic ruling class and an oppressive monarchy. Vicious struggles have taken place over the role of the federal government and the attempts to establish and sustain a representative democracy. Not only are Americans concerned about the stability of social and political institutions in the United States, but Europe is also watching with consternation. A peaceful and sovereign self-governing nation is not only a dream for millions of Americans, but it also affects the hopes of the entire human race.Unfortunately, the advancement of historical myths, dysfunctional politics, and a severely divided society threatens a nation that is crippled by extremism and violence. More than two years after the Capitol riots on the 6th of January 2021, political violence and terrorism has only worsened. The vast gap between the rich and poor continues to widen. Obstacles that stem from racism, antisemitism, corrupt money politics, corporate bribery, identity politics, and social rifts are now generating Americas second civil war. Perhaps millions of Americans would prefer to observe a July 4th holiday that celebrates a nation united in peace dedicated to the mission of establishing a government by the people. The Experiment is a hand-painted digital poster created in Spadecaller's Florida Studio on 6/24/2023.
I.M. Spadecaller, Clearwater Member Since March 2010 Artist Statement Welcome to Spadecaller's Galleries.
About the Artist: Spadecaller (Matt Schwartz) is the pseudonym he uses for his visual art, writing, poetry, and video creations; initially, the name came about by his direct approach on subjects that focus on humanitarian issues that impact our world today. He's known to call a spade a spade.
In the late 1950’s, Spadecaller’s formal training in traditional oil painting techniques commenced. He was eight years old, when he started private painting lessons. Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother, who has since passed away, nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with many of the tools and circumstances to launch his creative journey. Memories of art exhibitions in New York City that his mother introduced him to continue to motivate his quest for excellence. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York. As a realist painter, he strives to capture the beauty of nature and the soul of humankind. Due to the onset of chronic illness in the late nineties and with the advent of image editing software, he turned to creating digital hand painted images, mixed media and photographic art - fusing these into an art form worthy of the same gratification that he had once found in oils.
