Artist Statement Welcome to Third Eye Image and my online gallery. Please take a tour, my hope is that you will find some inspiration. I will do my best to answer any questions via email and remember; the answers are from the artist and not filtered by a third party such as a gallery. I will add as much information as possible on the creative process as it pertains to each piece for those interested. Bookmark this site and check back often. I have an enormous amount of completed work that will become available soon. As I have told many or the folks who collect my work, while I do create an enormous amount of new work per year, my sketchbook of ideas for future paintings is so full that I will have to live a few more lifetimes to complete it.

From abstract expressionism to realistic landscapes you will find a wide array of versatile images. These pieces will compliment any home or office including contemporary furnishings or traditional design. I love color and enjoy working in multiple media on a single canvas. Often a piece has taken a year to complete The layers have been added slowly over time allowing the layers to dry completely and for the essence of the image to fully emerge.

Occasionally I have worked on a specific project for a year, such as, the "Garden Mementos" collection. This collection was created during 2005 using many different digital imaging techniques. They are photography / scans / digital images and must be seen up close to be fully appreciate their beauty and detail.

The "Gentle Reminders" were created during a reflective phase. I began creating sketches that mirrored my own need for positive messages. I shared them with patrons, friends and family and soon found that everyone needs a gentle reminder too. This collection continues to grow as an expression from the heart.

"Creation is like a conversation between the surface, the paint, the conscious, subconscious and supra conscious. Dreaming & meditation help me to explore & propel my work to a higher level" ~Rebecca Leonard~

Accused of a short attention span throughout my childhood I was drawn to the world of art and began to draw and paint at an early age. It was in this creative realm that I found a sense of freedom and acceptance I longed for.
After 20 years working in the corporate world, I finally gave myself permission to focus full-time on my passion and obsession. I work in many different mediums and genres. During my formal art training I was taught the concept that you must work and create in a single style and medium to be thought of as accomplished, however, I refuse to be pigeonholed. I consider myself a rule breaker and a risk taker, believing that our life is like a canvas where we can explore, create and express whatever we choose.
"We are all pupils in the university of creation, enrolled in the course entitled, Life 101. " ~Rebecca Leonard~

Recent Review
Whether an ethereal moonscape, or a focused super-real floral - Rebecca Leonard creates images that resonate with the viewer. Her themes, from realms of her imagination as they fuse with with the mundane, speak to the complexity of our collective 21st century experience. Echo's or struggle merge with the sounds and sights of natural wonder. A woman of power and expression, but as light and delicate as a flower, Rebecca speaks to us from every canvas, every photograph and every artfully designed page. Her energy is boundless and inspiring. Her work reminds us how important it is to speak with our authentic voice - be it a voice of sound, of paint, of fabric or of words. ~J. Fishback~
