Description This painting is best seen with blurred vision (take your glasses off!) It is reminiscent of the impression you get in a forest when you open your eyes having been asleep for while. It radiates like a stained glass window. As a student I spent hours looking at Rembrandt paintings trying to understand how he showed light and dark and I think I am beginning to get it

Artist Statement Gill Bustamante B.A. – short bio

I am a professional fine artist and art tutor based in Sussex. I paint animal portraits, portraits, landscapes, seascapes and whatever else I fancy. I did my art foundation course at Chelsea and my fine art degree course at Brighton completing in 1982.

I paint large contemporary colourful oils on canvas in a style that ranges from traditional to impressionist to semi-abstract. I am not arty, deep, mysterious, messed up, young, ‘emerging’ or remotely likely to get famous - I just like painting. I am inspired by music, cake and practically anything I look at. I plan to pretend I am dead at some point in order to sell more paintings.
