Description This photo is of jaio notes that were adhered with wax onto a tree outside of the Potala Palace in Lhasa. The Potala palace was the living quarters of the Dalai Lama before his evacuation to India. Pilgrims come to the Potala to sightsee and pay their respects at the many shrines housed within the palace. They leave offerings of rice, money and butter to fuel the always illuminated candles in the sacred place.
