Description A peaceful stream ambles through the trees in the Waipio Valley on the Big Island of Hawaii. From Wikipedia Online Encyclopedia: Waipio Valley is a valley located in the Hamakua District of the Big Island of Hawaii. 'Waipio' means 'curved water' in the Hawaiian language.[1] It was the capital and permanent residence of many early Hawaiian alii (kings) up until the time of King Umi. A place celebrated for its nioi tree (Eugenia reinwardtiana) known as the 'Nioi wela o Paakalana' (The burning Nioi of Paakalana). It was the location of the ancient grass palace of the ancient kings of Hawaii with the nioi stands. Kahekili II raided Waipio in the 18th century and burned the four sacred trees to the ground.

Artist Statement Photography is for me a dance with nature. It is the immersion in a landscape; the sharing of a habitat with nature’s creatures. It is the sense of being lost in the moment, where the passing of time goes unnoticed. It is the serendipity of capturing a moment in time that becomes a timeless moment. The quiet places, the places of simple beauty, draw me in – from the delicate splendor of dew dancing on an iris petal to the magnificent breadth of a gray whale slicing through the water. With my camera, I am a blessed witness in a field of splendor.
