Artist Statement Contempary Native American artist born in Chicago, Il. Raised on the Lac Courte Orielles (L.C.O.) near Hayward, Wi. At thirteen I attended a week long intense summer art camp in Green Bay with appocoliptic surrealist painter Norbert Kox. Who taught a technique he dub "reinsance style," I pick up the technique easily and took first in my painting class. I felt I had been floundering as an artist with no definite medium. The technique had opened me to acrylic painting and I quickly explored on my own delveloping a sense of style, content and a formula. Most of my paintings focus around abstract building stuctors and play with deminsions to the point where they appear to be an opticle illusion. The bright colors add to the maddening and warped dimensions, creating a sense of urgency and confusion. I also take inspiration from different cultures. The plant life depected in some of the paintings was inspired by zen lines and zen painting where complex natural images where broken down into the simplilist raw forms. Art is an illusion, being able to munipulate the illusion to elicit a desired reaction or response is what being an artist boils down to, art should never kiss the ass of conventionality. Life and art for me are insperable, both a work in progress. A piece of art intelligently designed by an unknown creator.
