Description Santa Fe Depot painted by San Diego artist by The California artist RD Riccoboni The cities most famous train station was constructed in 1915 to compliment the buildings for the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park which commemorated the opening of the Panama Canal. It was built by architects, Bakewell and Brown in a Spanish Revival architectural style. The Santa Fe Depot now surrounded by glass condominium and office towers continues to service the public with regular trains headed for Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. In 2007, Amtrak declared this historical station as the ninth busiest Amtrak station in the United States.. Influenced by his early years living in the Connecticut suburbs of New York City this self-taught artist, credits encouragement by family and teachers for his drive and inspiration. The artist resides and paints in San Diego, California and is a member of the historic arts colony at Spanish Village Arts Center in Balboa Park San Diego.
