Tatu Valkonen, Los Angeles Member Since December 2009 Artist Statement Originally from Helsinki, Finland, Tatu has lived in Los Angeles since 1992. He moved to Los Angeles to study photography at Santa Monica College and graduated in 1995.
Tatu’s passion for photography dates back to his 1987 exchange student experience at Berkeley High School, where he was exposed to the works of Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon and Helmut Newton.
After his graduation from SMC, Tatu refined his skills as an assistant to leading photographers, and as a color printer at some of L.A.'s most prestigious facilities. Tatu’s broad experience in the various facets of the photo industry has perfected his skills as a working photographer.
In addition to his portfolio, Tatu has several major clients and publications to his credit. His client list includes Perry Ellis, CREO Capital Investment Partners,Vidal Sassoon, “Tobi” and the music giant BMG (now Sony-BMG). His work has been published in magazines such as Variety and San Francisco Review.
