Artist Statement Susie Mullen was a dear friend and co-adventurer. Not that we went anywhere, really but we shared an active curiosity. Susie made the biggest impact on the world around her of anyone I have ever known. She wasn't a powerful policy maker but she was an influencer. From her post at the cash register at Jones Dining Hall at Texas State in San Marcos, Texas she made lasting memories for thousands of students who came through her line. For Susie, it wasn't just about the card swipe or keeping the till straight. It was about making sure that every student had someone smile at them, ask how they were doing at least once a day. She went to their art showings and plays and recitals. She encouraged them when they were overwhelmed. And she shared her art through showings at Wake the Dead Coffee and through her handmade valentines she sold on campus to raise money for the Hays County Food Bank. Money from these sales will continue that support, its what she asked me to do and is my pleasure. Luann Gilliam curator of Susie the Viking Goddess Galleries.
