Description On September 11, 2001, America experienced the worst attack of terrorism in its history. The coordinated hijacking of 4 commercial airliners, the planned attack on symbolic targets. Hit-- 2 planes into the towers of the WTC on Wall St & another plane into the Pentegon. The United flight 93 crew & passengers stopped the madman on their flight. As the plane went down they gave their lives to keep it from the presumed target- our nations capital. These 39 people showed that the actions of a few can make a profound and lasting difference! The Flight 93 Memorial Flag was designed by Gene Stilp in 2003. It was made for the memorial ceremony where relatives of the heroes of flight 93 held the edges of the flag. In 2008 The National Parks Foundation announced plans to build a memorial (after collecting enough money) at the crash site in Shanksville, PA. Todd Beamer said Lets Roll!
Joyce MacPhee, Blue Ridge Mtns, NC Member Since January 2008 Artist Statement It wasn’t until I was 48 in 2000 that I was moved to start painting again to avoid the empty nest syndrome. As a teenager I had developed a style after my favorites- Vincent Van Gogh and Jasper Johns. My husband Scott and I were almost done raising our 3 children (Lori, Ian & Debra). Commissioned by friends and coworkers I painted a lighthouse, sunflower, a cowboy at sunset, A friend's 60th birthday, a statue of Liberty etc I especially liked anything that was patriotic. If you want me to paint you something let me know by email ok? I'm firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks so much for your interest!
