Artist Statement It says that I should share a few words about myself, for me this is very difficult. I am not good talking about myself but I will give it a spin.
I am a born and raised Detroiter. Except for my stint in the army I have lived here all my life. Detroit Michigan is my home and I hate to see the way it is bashed in the media. There is a lot to love here. I have seen a trend in the media when something bad happens anywhere within 50 miles of the city, the news says it happened in Detroit. But if anything good happens, and they can get the city named correctly (Redford, Dearborn, and ECT). Well enough of that..
I fell in love with photography when I was in middle school and the love affair has not let-up. I have read everything that I could get my hands on about Photography as I grew up. Over the years I seem to have learned a few things about the subject. I went to Vietnam and did my duty there. I had a camera at my side most of the time and took a ton of photos. I was careful not to photograph any of the horrors I saw there, I simply wanted to put them behind me. When I got home my wife and I move into our new and current home, that night the basement flooded. It was a good 15 years before it flooded again. Somehow all of the boxes containing our photos and negatives managed to be placed on the basement floor. All of them where destroyed..
I got a job with GM and worked there for 31.5 years. Early in my career with GM I tried to pursue a career in photography as well. It was not long before I realized that I could not chase both rabbits at the same time. I chose to stay with GM I did not believe that I could match GM’s earnings stability with my camera. I had a family to think of. Now I am retired my children are grown and have there own homes. I am free to chase the Photography rabbit..
I love the new Digital Medium!! And I am having the time of my life!!.
