Gerald Goodrum, Houston Member Since November 2015 Artist Statement "It should not be hard for you to stop sometimes and look into the stains of walls, or ashes of a fire, or clouds, or mud or like places, in which...you may find really marvelous ideas." (Leonardo da Vinci)
From 2009 until 2013 I lived in Rome where I served (in an unofficial capacity) as guide to the Vatican Museums, the Capitoline Museums, the Centrale Montemartini, the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, the Borghese Gallery, the Colonna Gallery, the National Gallery of Modern Art, and the Doria Pamphilj Gallery.
In 2015, after having visited many of the renowned museums in the major cities of Central and Western Europe, as well as in Washington, DC, New York, Houston, Montreal, and Mexico City, I met the Mexican artist Mario Belmares. It was really through observing the process of him at work that I became inspired to initiate my own projects.
My present works are abstract and moderately abstract realist with an emphasis on color field painting via the media of acrylic, charcoal and spray paint on canvas.
Art is a passion and a hobby; my actual occupation is as a Roman Catholic Priest of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. To inquire regarding the originals, message me via facebook.com/gerald.goodrum.
